The ProblemThrough their new website, Treasure Chest wants to showcase its products, while maintaining the brand image of tradition, fun, and creativity. Unlike e-commerce retailers such as Amazon, The Treasure Chest offers a highly-curated inventory focusing on hand-picked quality over quantity.
The OutcomeBy incorporating the experience of “little wins” and “user is never wrong” mentality into my design, I’ve designed a toy e-commerce website that share the same experience of shopping in the physical brick & mortar toy store.
Nielsen's Heuristic AnalysisMeeting with the founder of the app, it was clear that he wanted better ratings for his app, so I used Nielsen's 10 Usability Heuristics to quickly see opportunities for the redesign. Doing 2 user tests with the original app, there were opportunities that validated my heuristic evaluation, which helped me move forward with figuring out the flow for the redesigned app.
Affinity Diagrams Trying to gauge the right users, I pulled insights from multiple sight reading music apps that had the highest ratings: Music Tutor Free, Note Trainer, Rhythm Cat, Music Note Sight Reader, Piano Notes & Nota App. This helped show me the main users of this type of app, and helped guide my design process for that audience.
Don't reinvent the wheelCombining all my research and having an idea to start sketching with, I decided to take the best designs from all the combined apps that related to my main users. From gathering ideas, this helped me sketch out the flow of the app, resulting in an intuitive app that will help the users learn how to read notes and have fun at the same time.
